My name is Elaine Bovender and I am a piano teacher from Wilmington, North Carolina. I teach private lessons for ages 6 through adult in my home studio. Located off of Carolina Beach Road and convenient to the Monkey Junction, Silver Lake, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach areas.
I teach all ages with emphasis on note reading/identification, theory, rhythm, technique, improvisation, and ear training. I have lots of learning activities and lessons in my studio are fun and exciting! Check out a first piano lesson in the videos section below.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages and levels and do my utmost to provide the best possible music education for my students. Lessons are individualized to meet the needs of my students with emphasis on note reading/identification, theory, technique, improvisation, and ear training. There are so many benefits to music study that include building confidence, discipline, concentration and many other benefits that will help them succeed in life. It is my desire to help each student develop within themselves the qualities of musicianship that will remain with them for a lifetime.
Fall 2023:
Fall Term: I am so looking forward to our new year in the studio! the fall term begins on Tuesday, September 5th. I am so excited to see the progress my students will make this year. I trust that you've all had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a great year in the studio!
Beginning students learn the basics of piano playing while working through the Piano Safari method developed by Dr. Julie Knerr Hague and Katherine Fisher. Other methods include Piano Pronto method developed by Jennifer Eklund, Alfred’s All-In-One Piano Course for Adults, John W. Schaum, John Thompson, and other supplementary material.
More advanced students work on a variety of music including classical repertoire, technique, sight reading and theory. I also encourage my students to work on music from other genres that they find interesting, such as sacred, pop, etc.
How often do I need to take lessons? Lessons are one day per week and I offer 30 minute, 45 minute private lessons and 60 minute partner sessions.
Do I have to have a piano or keyboard to get started?
Yes, you will need an acoustic piano (preferably) or a digital keyboard with 88 weighted keys and a sustaining pedal. You can read more here.
